6. They feel happy when they manage to get away with lying

If you were to lie to someone you care about just because you don’t want to hurt them and you know that it’s for their own good, you’ll probably feel relieved when you get away with your lie. But that’s only because your intentions are pure.

However, when a pathological liar gets away with only telling false information, things are different. I’ve been around people whom I wouldn’t necessarily consider pathological liars, but they had a weird enthusiasm when they told false things.

For instance, one woman once said that her husband bought her two Birkin bags in the last year and that she might receive another designer bag for her birthday. We were with a bunch of people at the time, and I knew that those bags weren’t the real thing, but I didn’t say anything and let her be.

When she noticed that my lips were sealed and people around us were very appreciative of her expensive belongings, she seemed happy and content. That’s something that you might also experience with a pathological liar, so pay attention to these signs.

Being with someone who doesn’t care about telling the truth is exhausting and annoying and I’m pretty sure that it will cause you a lot of pain and frustration.

One of the easiest things to do is to talk to them, tell them how you feel, and suggest they go to therapy. If that’s the case with someone you deeply care about, I can only hope that things will improve, so don’t lose hope just yet!
