#4 They Want Attention
Being a social species, humans want other people’s attention to feel important. They could complain about you if they don’t feel like they get sufficient attention themselves, possibly because they are introverted or don’t have many friends.
Whenever it comes to gaining attention, it might be easy to believe that people don’t bother about your viewpoint or the opinions of others—that those who speak negatively about you are only interested in themselves—but this is rarely the case. Instead, most of the time, it benefits both parties.
In order to draw attention to oneself while degrading their target, gossip is an excellent technique for someone who doesn’t have many acquaintances or opportunities to interact with other people. Without having to speak to you personally, they may talk about you. They may avoid conflict in this manner while still attracting attention from others.
