They forbid you to talk about particular subjects

If they suggest to you how to cut your hair or they call you out on all that reckless spending on comic books is one thing, but if they ask you to change major things about your life – either your career, religion, and even those things that are most important for you – that’s something you should see as a red flag.

If you want to talk about successful relationships, then there’s no such thing as controlling other people, especially our significant other. So instead of wishing you were different, a good partner will try to support you in everything you want to achieve.

And if they still disagree with something serious you’re considering, you will find a way to talk it out, either between you two or in therapy.
