4. Sharp Hooks

All good anglers know they should use sharp hooks, as the sharper the hook, the easier the barb gets into the fish’s flesh. Some people find it hard to determine if their hooks are truly sharp, and they keep filing long after the hook is unusable.

Remember to always sharpen your old hooks and/or use new hooks. It may sound like simple common sense, but just because it is, a lot of people go on fishing adventures with old, dull hooks. Will they catch a fish? Most likely so, but not too many. There’s no doubt that you’d catch more fish if you made sure every hook you used was as sharp as the day you bought it.
