“I won’t explain why this is important to me, but it is”
Sometimes, we need to put a boundary in place when we’re handling narcissistic behavior. But we have to be mindful that explaining why allows them to manipulate or gaslight us.
In situations like this, you can uphold what’s important to you without giving any elaborate explanations.
“Can I make a suggestion?”
Remind the narcissistic person you’re talking to that you also have your own needs.
Many times, people with narcissistic personality disorder overlook the fact that there are other people with wants and needs around them.
Let them know that you’d like to have some input by asking them a question about your own requirements.
When handling narcissistic behavior, you can also pose the question: “Are you thinking about both of us or just yourself?”
