#8 Their Grandparenting Style Is Based on Stereotypes
Raising kids today involves much more than just handing a boy some Legos and a girl some dolls and letting them play. Instead, it’s more critical than ever to respect a child’s interests while avoiding gender-biased stereotypes.
Along with that comes language that does not define “dressed like a boy” as putting on sneakers, jeans, and T-shirts or compares poor baseball skills to “throwing like a girl.” Mothers-in-law, however, are trapped in their parenting behaviors from decades before, so they don’t entirely understand this. They fail to recognize the importance of providing children with a gender-positive environment for their own well-being.
